Music Video History

Music and moving images have always gone together,

20's and 30s was a very expermiental time with earlier music videos been shown on early juke boxes called soundies in america and the european types scopitones.

The early sixties was the start of the baby boom after so many wars there was a decreased population and alot of young people where coming back from war and alot of people were having babies.

also in the sixties mordern art began to influance alot of different things and music was one of them with music artisits making artistic songs and 'Promos' also a drug culture came about.

in the 70's the start of top of the pops with live acts on and when the acts were on tour in and around britian or in and around the world the top of the pops used to show the artists music video.

The 80's saw the start of one of the most iconic music companys MTV it originally started in amercia and then started broadcasting in the UK later in the 80's also the changes in technology and gaps in market made music videos boom.

In the 90's the boom in music videos became even more intense and more money went into making the videos, also black artists got the break they deserved and there first music videos came out, in the 90's the start of other music channels like smash hits and Q these started as music magazines.
